What is ChatGPT Business?
ChatGPT Business is OpenAI's plan for teams and organisations. It was called ChatGPT Team until August 2025. It gives every employee the same ChatGPT they know, inside a shared company workspace with admin controls.
What the workspace adds over personal accounts:
- Company control. Admins add and remove people, choose which apps and connectors are switched on, and see usage.
- Your data stays yours. OpenAI says it does not train on business data by default, and data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Connected to your tools. Apps link ChatGPT to Google Drive, SharePoint, Slack and other systems, with admin approval over what each can read or do.
- Shared work. Teams share projects, custom GPTs and prompts instead of each person rebuilding them.
ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise vs personal plans
| Plus or Pro (personal) | ChatGPT Business | ChatGPT Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | Individuals | Teams and mid-sized companies, from 2 users | Large organisations with security and compliance reviews |
| Price | Per person | $20/user/month billed annually, $25 monthly (USD; local prices vary) | Custom contract through OpenAI sales |
| Admin and SSO | No | Admin console, SSO | Advanced controls, SCIM, audit logs |
| Training on your data | Opt-out setting | Off by default | Off by default, plus retention controls |
| Data residency | No | No | Region options |
| Buying | Card | Card, self-serve | Invoice and contract |
Prices are OpenAI's published USD rates after the April 2026 seat price cut. Check the live price at checkout before you budget, because regional pricing and GST change the final figure.
Where ChatGPT pays off, team by team
The gains come from recurring work, not one-off questions. These are the workflows we see stick fastest in Indian enterprises:
| Team | Recurring work ChatGPT speeds up |
|---|---|
| Sales | Account briefs before visits, call notes into CRM updates, proposal first drafts |
| Marketing | Campaign briefs, research synthesis, content variants for each channel |
| Finance | Variance commentary, review-pack summaries, policy questions |
| HR and L&D | Job descriptions, policy Q&A, learning content |
| Operations | SOP drafts, report consolidation, exception summaries |
| Leadership | Decision papers, board-pack summaries, competitive scans |
How to decide if ChatGPT Business is right for you
Ask five questions before you buy seats:
- Is AI already in use on personal accounts? If yes, company data is already leaving your control. A managed workspace fixes that first.
- Which three workflows will you start with? Pick tasks that repeat weekly and have a clear owner.
- What data can people use? Write a one-page rule on what can and cannot go into ChatGPT.
- Who needs a seat now? Start with the teams that own your first workflows, not the whole company.
- Do you also need Claude? Many teams run both. See our ChatGPT vs Claude comparison.
A 60-day rollout that sticks
- Week 1: Set up. Workspace, SSO, apps switched on, data-use rule published.
- Weeks 1–2: Train. A six-hour AI Essentials session per cohort, built on each team's real tasks.
- Weeks 2–6: Apply. Each team turns one recurring task into a documented workflow, with two feedback rounds.
- Week 8: Show and measure. Teams demo their workflows; you compare time and quality against the baseline.
Licences alone rarely change how work gets done. In our programmes, the shift happens when people rebuild a task they do every week, with someone checking the result.
