OpenAI can no longer rule out that its next model has critical cyber capability

Internal tests of Astra, OpenAI's next model, came back strong enough that the company says it cannot rule out the Critical cyber threshold in its own safety framework.

Critical is a specific bar: a model that can find and build working attacks on hardened real-world systems without human help, or run an entire attack from nothing but a stated goal. Every model before it, including GPT-5.6 Sol, sat one rung below at High.

OpenAI paused its own internal work on Astra where it did not meet tightened controls, moving it into isolated environments with restricted network access and monitoring of the model's reasoning as it runs.

Three days later it expanded Daybreak, its cyber-defence programme, and said frontier cyber models will be released only into vetted hands.

A company halting its own work is a stronger signal than any benchmark score. Read the second half carefully: the capability that breaks systems is the same one that defends them, and OpenAI is racing to reach defenders first. If you run anything critical, your patching window just got shorter.

Google Maps can now order your food, book your hotel and read your inbox

Ask Maps now carries out whole tasks rather than answering questions. Tell it to order takeaway on your way home and it finds open restaurants on your route, matches the dish and adds it to your cart.

Ordering is live with Square and Toast, with Uber Eats to follow, built on a new shared standard for how AI systems place food orders.

It also compares live hotel prices and availability and surfaces local events with ticket links. Connect Gmail and it factors in your flight and dinner bookings without being told, though that stays off by default.

A live transit board now tracks delays minute by minute, and the whole thing is expanding to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Japan and Mexico, plus over 150 countries in English.

This is what agentic AI looks like once it stops being a demo. Not a chatbot suggesting a restaurant, a system that fills the cart and hands you the checkout. If you sell anything online, your customer is about to arrive through a layer you do not own and cannot design.

OpenAI bought a presentation startup, and is quietly assembling an office suite inside ChatGPT

OpenAI confirmed it has acquired NextSlide, which turns prompts, notes and raw documents into finished, editable presentations.

Founder Ahmed Beshry and his team join OpenAI to work on ChatGPT. Terms were not disclosed, and the deal actually closed earlier this year, which is worth noticing.

Beshry previously co-founded Caper AI, the smart-cart checkout company Instacart bought in 2021, so this is his second exit into a much larger platform.

It lands on top of ChatGPT already handling documents, spreadsheets and presentations, plus a PowerPoint integration shipped earlier this year.

Slides, docs and sheets, all inside the chat window your team already has open all day. That is Microsoft Office described from a different starting point. The buying question is no longer which AI tool to add, it is which software line item AI quietly makes redundant.

Turn one Loom recording into an onboarding SOP the next hire can actually follow

The pain: the person who knows the process is the bottleneck, and nobody has time to write it down.

1.	Record one short Loom walking through a single repeatable task, such as submitting timesheets or sending the weekly client email.

2.	Grab the Loom transcript, plus links or screenshots for anything that only appears on screen.

3.	Paste both into ChatGPT and ask for a Markdown SOP with a purpose line, the resource links, the steps in order, and a completion checklist.

4.	Fill the gaps it flags, since the recording will have skipped things you do without thinking.

5.	Paste the finished SOP into Google Docs, and build a Google Sheet index with title, owner, team, last-reviewed date and link.
