| Signal of the Week |
 |
Microsoft spends $2.5 billion to send 6,000 engineers into your building
| Microsoft launched Frontier Company with $2.5 billion and 6,000 embedded engineers. The unit's sole job is to physically sit inside enterprise clients and build AI systems for them - not hand over software and leave. Unilever, Land O'Lakes, and the London Stock Exchange are among the first partners. |
| This is forward-deployed engineering at unprecedented scale. Engineers arrive, embed inside client teams, ship AI systems, and hand over what they built - compressing deployments from months into weeks. |
| If enterprises could self-deploy AI reliably at scale, this unit would not exist. Microsoft's bet is evidence that the hardest part of enterprise AI is not the model - it is the gap between the model and a working system inside your building. |
Futurelab Take
When a company pays billions to sit inside your building instead of shipping software, it is telling you something about where the real problem in enterprise AI is. It is not the model. It is the gap between the model and a working system that people actually use. That gap is expensive - and right now, the vendors are the ones paying to close it.

| AI News That Matters |
| Revenue and Market Share |
 |
Anthropic overtakes OpenAI in business subscriptions and annualised revenue
| Anthropic's annualised revenue run-rate crossed $47 billion - exceeding OpenAI's reported $25-33 billion range. Anthropic also overtook OpenAI in enterprise and business plan subscriptions, the first time any competitor has led in the business market since ChatGPT launched. |
| This is not a valuation story. Enterprise buyers follow adoption signals. Organisations making formal, long-term AI commitments are increasingly choosing Claude over GPT. |
| For CTOs evaluating vendor selection, this changes the risk calculus of betting on a single provider. A more competitive market means more leverage - and more reason to maintain optionality across platforms. |
Futurelab Take
Anthropic passing OpenAI on business subscriptions is the number that matters most here. Consumer usage is noise. The enterprise subscription line is where organisations place long-term bets. When that shifts, the whole vendor landscape shifts with it.

| AI for Science and Research |
 |
Anthropic launches an AI research tool built for scientists, starting with drug discovery
| Anthropic launched Claude Science in beta - a multi-agent workbench for genomics, proteomics, and cheminformatics. It coordinates specialist agents across local machines, compute clusters, and cloud with built-in reviewer verification at each step. |
| The launch pairs with a drug discovery programme targeting neglected diseases. Anthropic claims AI could compress development timelines from 12 years to 7-8. |
| The governance model built in - review steps, verification loops, audit trails at each stage - is the same architecture enterprise teams in finance, legal, and compliance will need before deploying agents in regulated settings. |
Futurelab Take
Claude Science is not just a biotech product. It is a governance blueprint. If you are thinking about where multi-agent AI goes next inside your own organisation, this is the clearest preview yet of what responsible deployment looks like in practice.

| Knowledge Management - Google NotebookLM |
Google NotebookLM: Turn your documents into a knowledge base your team can actually use
CTO question it answers: Who are our internal AI champions and how do we build them?
NotebookLM (free, from Google) lets you upload your internal documents - process guides, meeting notes, strategy decks - and ask questions, generate summaries, and create audio briefings directly from that material. It does not train on your data or share it.
| 1. | Go to notebooklm.google.com and sign in with your Google account. It is free. |
| 2. | Create a new notebook and upload your team's key documents - process guides, FAQs, onboarding decks. |
| 3. | Ask questions directly, generate summaries, or create audio overviews from your own content. |
| 4. | Share the notebook link with your team. Questions that used to need a manager now get answered instantly. |
Why it works: Your AI champions can use it to build internal knowledge bases that help less confident colleagues get answers in plain language - without creating new documentation or adding headcount.

Workshop
AI Workflow Accelerator at BORDA South Asia
We ran an AI Workflow Accelerator session with the BORDA South Asia team - a room full of development professionals mapping their actual work onto AI tools, not just watching demos. The conversations were sharp, the use cases were real, and the energy in the room made it clear: teams that engage seriously with this shift are already thinking differently.
